On May 20, 2015, Governor Haslam signed into law the Go Build Tennesse Act to energize interest in construction related education and jobs across the state of Tennessee. Just under one yeat later on May 18, 2016, Go Build Tennessee went live to help rebuild the skilled construction labor market in the state and propel the construction industry in Tennessee forward.
Go Build Tennessee is in response to demographic changes including an aging workforce, the impact of a deep recession and a lack of interest from secondary and post-secondary students. The result has been a persistent lack of skilled workers in the construction trades. Go Build will help develop the workforce who will benefit from better jobs and careers in the construction industry across the state.
Key principals associated with the Go Build Tennessee program in Tennessee gathered on Capitol Hill in Nashville to kick off this important initiative. The Go Build program will be promoted through multimedia advertising, promotional materials, media campaigns and a website to spur interest in young people across the state to choose construction related fields for further job training and jobs.
The program will be run by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation comprised of members from Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors, Home Builders Association of Tennessee and the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
