The economy continues to affect all of us. Travel and professional development budgets have been reduced or frozen. The news every day is sobering, to say the least. All organizations, including AGC are prioritizing activities and making hard choices.

While I do not know the details of your budget, I do know this: Now is not the time to limit your face-to-face engagement with leading experts and colleagues in the construction industry. For the past 20 years, we have conducted our Tennessee AGC Statewide Convention in places like Destin, Hilton Head or Panama City. However, getting to those out of state locales can be costly. The Board of Directors has again, for 2010, recognized the Convention is an important event where AGC members can get together for educational and fun events. But the Board also acknowledges the effect of the economy could restrict the travel expense of an attendee. 

Therefore, we will again conduct the Convention in NASHVILLE. We have chosen October 28-31, 2010 as the date, and the Renaissance Nashville Hotel as the site of this year's event. The Convention Committee has reduced the registration fee to reflect the “bare bones” philosophy your Board of Directors has adopted. But, the Convention will be approached with the same enthusiasm as it has for the past 20 years! It will be educational but still a lot of fun for all attending. The Annual Meeting of the CompTrust AGC…Tennessee will be conducted the morning October 28, 2010, so a good contention of members will already be staying at the Renaissance Hotel. The Tennessee Builders Ball, whose theme is “Steel Toes and Stilettos,” will be held on Saturday night. This is an event which has been planned for 2 years, and brings Architects, Contractors & Engineers together as a fundraiser for ACE, an organization supplying scholarships for deserving high school graduates going into the construction or design fields in college. We have booked only 75 rooms for the event, so it would be wise to get your reservations in as soon as possible! Rooms will be assigned on a “first come, first served” basis. Getting your reservations in as soon as possible will not only guarantee your room, but will save you money. 

So, mark your calendar TODAY! Join us October 28-31, 2010 and renew those acquaintances you haven't seen since last year. We'll provide the training, the great music and a lot of fun.
