STUDENT
CHAPTER
In an effort
to increase the skilled construction labor force and to provide
economic and educational opportunities for students, The
Tri-Cities Branch of AGC works closely with students in the
following areas:
-
Sponsor of
the East Tennessee State University Student Chapter of the
Construction Technology Department.
Students in this program join us for our quarterly general
membership dinner meetings. The students also assist with
various projects throughout the year. Many of the graduates
from this department become employees of our general
contractor members.
-
Originated
the Tennessee School-to-Work Program in Commercial
Construction in a partnership agreement with East Tennessee
State University, Bristol Tennessee High School, and
Sullivan North High School. This program is endorsed by the Tennessee Department of
Education and the Tennessee Department of Labor. The
emphasis of the curriculum is to allow high school graduates
to immediately join the construction workforce or provide
them a background to pursue a post-secondary education in a
construction field.
Each year,
Tri-Cities AGC has set aside funds to assist our Student
Chapter. Activities that have qualified for this grant include
the purchase of specific educational materials, such as computer
software or hardware. We also financially assist students with
their travel expenses to various educational seminars and to the
AGC of America Annual Convention.
